High Street, Banchory-Ternan (c.1900–1905)
A glimpse of Banchory before the arrival of modern traffic, showing our High Street and a quieter pace of life in the early years of the twentieth century. Before tarmac roads and busy town-centre traffic, the High Street was shaped by pedestrians, local businesses and a slower pace of everyday life. What a huge difference compared to today!
High Street, Banchory-Ternan (c.1903–1908)
Captured during the early Edwardian period, this scene shows a town still closely connected to its rural roots. With simple road surfaces and few signs of modern transport, it offers a snapshot of Banchory before many of the changes that would shape the High Street in the decades ahead.
High Street, Banchory in Transition (c.1920s–1930s)
This moving picture captures Banchory during a period of change, as motor vehicles gradually became a more familiar sight and began replacing the horses and carts of earlier decades. The High Street remained at the centre of local life – a place where residents shopped, met neighbours and carried out daily business. Many of the buildings visible here continue to define the character of Banchory today.
